GPS tracking unit
GPS tracking unit A GPS tracking unit is a device that uses the Global Positioning System to determine the precise location of a vehicle, person, or other asset to which it is attached and to record the position of the asset at regular intervals. The recorded location data can be stored within the tracking unit, or it may be transmitted to a central location data base, or internet-connected computer, using GPRS or Satellite modem embedded in the unit. This allows the asset's location to be displayed against a GIS map backdrop in real-time .

Impex’s System solution includes both software and hardware set to provide the perfect vehicle tracking system for every place at any language. The System uses the GPS, GSM and GPRS/SMS technologies to enable businesses to keep track of their fleets of vehicles. The system provides management with accurate information through MIS reports and can be interfaced with ERP and JIT systems to increase and monitor employee productivity and efficiency.

Typically, vehicle position information, its speed and direction are stored on the vehicle for a time. Position information can then be relayed to the control center in raw form or processed on-board the vehicle before its transmission. The communication system could be via GSM/GPRS or wireless network. The GSM is ideal for GPS position information. GPS information is typically about 60 characters in length, leaving room for other information such as the vehicle registration details, average speed and so on to be transmitted as part of the same short message.
